FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Green Bay, Wis. (Nov. 16, 2007) – Partners In Education of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce an exciting new youth leadership opportunity for Brown County. The Greater Green Bay Youth Leadership Council (YLC) will provide a means for youth leaders to interface with elected officials, discussing the challenges and concerns of young people in our community and promoting a culture where student voices are an integral part of the area’s growth.
The inaugural meeting of the YLC took place on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Green Bay City Hall – City Council Chambers. Local elected officials were on hand to meet with students and share project ideas from their community.
“As community leaders, it is important to recognize the value of including young people in our planning process,” said Paul Jadin, President of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. “The Youth Leadership Council provides a unique venue to further develop our young leaders, and fills a vital communication link between our area youth and elected community officials.”
The YLC will be comprised of two delegates from the 10 area school districts, with a junior and a senior representative selected by their high school. These students will meet monthly to discuss a variety of issues affecting young people and will serve as a resource to local units of government and boards. The YLC will be an additional resource in strengthening the community ties of young people and encouraging them to become more active in the planning and development of local projects. Furthermore, it will provide a forum for youth leaders to have meaningful input on policies that affect the entire community.
