PARTNERS IN EDUCATION HONORS GOLDEN BUSINESS PARTNERS

Green Bay, Wis.¬- (Feb. 11, 2009) – Partners in Education of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual Appreciation Academy on Wednesday, Feb. 4, to thank volunteers, supporters and 2009 Golden Apple Award applicants; and to award 2009 Golden Business Partner Awards to businesses involved in education. 

At the Academy, Partners in Education representatives and Mark Murphy, president of the Green Bay Packers talked about the visionaries that started Partners in Education in 1992 and challenged today’s businesses in the area to work with area schools through Partners in Education to keep that dream alive. Partners in Education dedicated its year’s program of work and fund-raising campaign to founder, Don Long.  Long, founder of Imperial Supplies, played a prominent role in creating Partners in Education, notably the Golden Apple Awards.  

The following area businesses were recognized and presented a Golden Business Partner Award for their education involvement:

  Big Tomatoes Owner Larry London for his work with Pulaski High School
  Figaro’s Pizza Owners Doug & Cindy Egnarski for the numerous ways they support all Pulaski Schools
  MCL Industries, Inc., CEO Gary Lofquist and staff, for their support of technology & engineering to music at Pulaski High School
  Sidekicks Grill Owners Kurt & Denise Gajeski, for supporting West De Pere co-curricular activities
  VFW Post 2113 & Auxiliary Representatives Butch Zelten, Lee Jansen & Joe Roffers, for their flag contributions and service at district ceremonies.

Together, through Partners in Education, business and education in the Greater Green Bay Area is promoting education through awards programs and unique scholarships; influencing classroom education by attacking issues like school attendance, school-readiness, 21st century work skills and more; opening business doors to educate educators about skills and careers of community workplaces and helping young people have valued first-time work experiences through youth apprenticeships; informing students, parents, and educators about current and future career options with a variety of career programs and utilizing the WisCareers Web site; and connecting community resources for developmental assets, drug & alcohol prevention, youth leadership training, parent network support, and more.
