(Green Bay, Wis.) April 14, 2005-- Nan Nelson, executive vice president of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, recently celebrated 30 years with the chamber. She has been employed in various capacities by the chamber since 1975. From economic development to communications, group purchasing and government affairs, Nan Nelson’s impact on the chamber is far-reaching and knowledge of the chamber’s history, evolution, and inner workings is unsurpassed.
A 1974 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, she has been a Certified Chamber Executive since 1987. A graduate of the U.S. Chamber-sponsored Institute for Organization Management and Nan has also served as an instructor at its Notre Dame University campus. Nan is also a member of the U.S. Chamber’s Academy of Organization Management, having completed a thesis to receive that designation. She is currently a member of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives Government Relations Advisory Board.
She is also a past board member of the Wisconsin Association of Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC), the Wisconsin Economic Development Association (WEDA) and the American Chamber of Commerce Executives Communications Council. She has been a director and past president of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce Executives (WCCE). In 1998 she received the Brown County Historical Society’s appreciation award. Her community activities include: secretary-treasurer of Bay Area Community Council, a community strategic planning think tank; board member and past president of the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay Founders Association; member of the advisory board of A Woman’s Place at St. Mary’s Hospital; and founding committee member of both Artstreet, a community arts festival in Green Bay, and Voyageur magazine, a quarterly historical journal for Northeast Wisconsin. For five years in the 1990s she and her husband, Doug, operated the Astor House Bed & Breakfast.
When asked what she treasures most about working at the chamber, Nan replies, "The people... I've seen many changes over the years but getting to know the different people who have worked for the organization, and the great volunteer business leaders who have given their time and expertise to the community through the chamber, many of whom are still part of my work every day, has been a very rewarding part of my job. I've been glad to be a part of it."
Send your congratulations to Nan Nelson at nelson@titletown.org. From all of the staff at the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, we’d like to thank you for your dedication to the chamber, local business and the community.
