Leadership Green Bay honors program contributors with annual awards

Green Bay, Wis.¬ (Feb. 25, 2009)— Leadership Green Bay is pleased to honor Juliet Cole and Berners-Schober Associates, Inc., as the 2009 recipients of the Leo Frigo Leadership Award and John M. and Meredith B. Rose Business Award, respectively.
Each year, the Leo Frigo Leadership Award is bestowed on an esteemed volunteer or alumni of the Leadership Green Bay (LGB) program who has made a significant, continual contribution to the program and to leadership in the community. This is the program’s highest honor and the honoree is recognized as an advocate and model of leadership. The John M. and Meredith B. Rose Business Award for community involvement and leadership honors a business that follows in the Roses’ footsteps in its strong commitment and leadership in the community.
Cole, a 2002 graduate of LGB, is the associate director of the Institute for Learning Partnership at UW-Green Bay. She has been a member of the LGB curriculum committee since that time, working on the program’s diversity session, and has been a presenter and speaker at many LGB sessions. Her community involvement is extensive and includes co-founding the Brown County Diversity Circles and serving as a trained facilitator and trainer of the circles. She also started the Nia African and African American Dance/Drumming Group in 2001 and has sustained it as a permanent feature of the university and the community. She has established herself as a storyteller of diversity in the schools and has participated on the planning committee for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,’s celebration for several years.
“It’s very appropriate for Juliet to receive the Leo Frigo Leadership Award knowing the principles that Leo Frigo lived by,” said Jeanne Agneessens, LGB program manager. “She is a great example of selfless giving to organizations that help strengthen our community. We’re very fortunate to have her as a strong partner on our LGB curriculum committee.”
Berners-Schober Associates, Inc. (BSA) was chosen as it exemplifies the John M. and Meredith B. Rose Award’s standards of commitment and leadership. The company has supported LGB through sponsorships, donated items and sending their leadership through the program, and has provided continued support after leadership participants graduated. Three LGB curriculum committee members are in BSA’s employ: Libby Parrish (2007), John Miller (2004) and Ian Griffiths (2005).
BSA encourages community involvement of their employees in service organizations; it also actively volunteers its time for On Broadway, Inc., Downtown Green Bay, Inc., the Redevelopment Authority, Olde Main Street and The Mayor’s Sustainable Green Bay Task Force.
“The exciting part of this year’s presentation is that Joe Dettlaff, president of BSA, used to work closely with John Rose on many projects. It meant all that much more for Joe to be on the receiving end of the John M. Rose and Meredith B. Rose Business Awards,” said Agneessens. “The company employs almost 60 people and has built community responsibility into their company expectations. We congratulate them for their efforts.”
