Green Bay, Wis.- (March 6, 2008) – Leadership Green Bay, a community leadership program by the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, is accepting applications for the 2008-2009 Leadership Green Bay class.

The program educates participants about the community and helps to mold them into contributing leaders in the community. The benefits are many – individuals hone their leadership skills, the community at large benefits from leaders who want to share their newfound knowledge and skills on boards and committees and businesses reap the benefits of having employees who are aware of different leadership styles and can work well with people different than they are.

Participants attend nine daylong sessions that open their eyes to different aspects of the community at large –History and Heritage, Human Services, Education, Government, Diversity and Culture, Economy and Marketplace and Environment. In addition, class members complete a group project to benefit the community - from the creation of a restroom facility along the Fox River Trail to the installation of no-cost fire alarms in areas of the city shown to be at highest risk for fires.

"People who go through the program build social capital – access to resources they wouldn’t otherwise have. This has benefits for both their personal life and professional life, opening a lot of doors and offering incalculable benefits," said Jeanne Agneessens, program manager, Leadership Green Bay.

Employers are also winners as a result of their employees’ involvement and investment in Leadership Green Bay.

"Employers end up with a more confident employee who works better in a team environment, is educated about the community and can help to strengthen the infrastructure of our community," she said.

Applications are available at www.leadershipgreenbay.org; questions can be directed to Agneessens at (920) 593-3412 or lgb@titletown.org.
