Chamber Board Endorses Hospitality Referendum

Green Bay, Wis. (March 3, 2005) The Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors announces today its endorsement of the Green Bay West Side Hospitality Referendum. The chamber encourages a YES vote on this referendum, which would open much of the west side to development of hospitality-related businesses that need liquor licenses. The vote for this referendum takes place April 5, 2005.

“A yes vote on this referendum will allow for reasonable hospitality-related development without any encroachment of taverns,” says Paul Jadin, president of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber encourages business and residents to support the referendum because:

-Development is limited to business and industrial zoning districts and will not allow taverns and bars. A yes vote will allow for new restaurants and hotels to develop in blighted properties and vacant buildings on the west side.

-A yes vote will expand the tax base through business development that will help hold the line on property taxes.

-Voting yes allows existing small businesses to be competitive; leading to job growth and business expansion on the west side.

-A yes vote will allow a wider variety of business development on the west side providing more choice of retail selections including Green Bay restaurants and retail businesses.

The eligible voting area includes Residents of Green Bay’s west side in the area south of the bay of Green Bay, west of the Fox River, north of Lombardi Avenue, and east of Taylor Street.
