FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Green Bay, Wis.- (Oct. 18, 2007) – Partners in Education of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce kicked off the 15
th annual Golden Apple Awards program on Oct. 17. Representatives from local businesses distributed tokens of appreciation to teachers in 10 area school districts and explained the nomination process of the Golden Apple Awards to each classroom. The Golden Apple Awards program was designed to enhance the community’s awareness of the quality of education occurring within Green Bay area schools, and also to recognize the high standards of professionalism, leadership and innovation within teaching.
"Locally, the Golden Apple Awards have raised the bar of teaching," said Nancy Schopf, vice president of education and leadership at the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. "Educators have raised their teaching standards and the community has developed a great appreciation for their commitment to our children and our future."
Once a teacher is nominated, he or she must fill out an application form. Only seven applicants, or seven teams of teachers, are chosen each year. The recipients of the Golden Apple Award receive $2,000, as well as recognition at the Golden Apple Dinner Program to be held Apr. 16, 2008. A live televised program will air on WLUK FOX 11 the night of the recognition dinner which will showcase the teaching practices of the Golden Apple Award recipients.
