"Taking Wisconsin to the World" is theme of April 3 Global Trade Conference

GREEN BAY – The Fifth Annual Northeastern Wisconsin Global Trade Conference will provide business professionals with tools and skills needed to compete in the expanding global marketplace.

The daylong conference – with a theme of "Taking Wisconsin to the World" – will be held Tuesday, April 3 at the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay. This year’s conference is presented in conjunction with U.S. Rep. Tom Petri (R-6th District) and U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen (D-8th District).

Keynote speakers are U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab and Michael R. Nowak, president, co-founder and co-owner of Coating Excellence International (CEI), a specialized extrusion coating and printing company.

Schwab is a member of President George W. Bush’s Cabinet and serves as the president’s principal trade adviser, negotiator and spokesperson on trade issues. She has been actively engaged in the development of U.S. strategy in the Doha Round multilateral trade negotiations, and successfully concluded bilateral free trade agreements with Peru and Colombia.

Novak’s company has averaged 82 percent annual sales growth over the past six years and was recognized by Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce as the 2003 Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year with the Grand Award for medium-sized companies. In 2004, Novak was appointed to the U.S. Department of Commerce Manufacturing Council.

Petri and Kagen said the conference provides opportunities for business professionals in the region to learn more about what it takes to succeed in the competitive global marketplace.

"The conference provides businesses throughout our area with an excellent chance to learn how the global economy has a direct impact right here and how our region can compete more effectively internationally," Petri said.

Kagen said, "Creating new opportunities and a better quality of life for working families, family farmers, small businesses and manufacturers both large and small must be our collective goal."

The conference is designed primarily for CEOs of large and small businesses, business owners, senior management teams, government officials, educators, economic development professionals, and college and university students.

Topics to be covered in seminar sessions include export-import documentation and procedures, international technology trends, cultural impact on global business, and understanding China and India.

The individual registration fee is $80, or $70 for individuals who register by Friday, March 23. The student registration fee is $17, or $15 for students who register by March 23.
