FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Green Bay, Wis.¬- (Aug. 27, 2008)- The Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 22nd Annual EXCELLENCE IN BUSINESS Award recipient. Each year, Advance – the economic development arm of the Chamber – recognizes a business that has excelled in efforts and achievements over its two most recent fiscal years. This year’s recipient is Procter & Gamble Paper Products Co. (P&G).
“We’re honored to receive this award, which recognizes all of our associates’ work. We continue to successfully reinvent our 116-year young business in Green Bay,” said Tom Meyer, plant manager.
P&G was chosen based on a number of factors, including its solid sales growth of more than 21 percent in the last two years. Locally, the company completed the installation of a new paper machine and converting line with an estimated investment of $200 million. This was the first new paper machine installed in the state of Wisconsin in the last 10 years. This effort resulted in a number of changes at the state level, including a reduction of time involved in the permitting process and elimination of sales tax on energy that will work in the future to strengthen Wisconsin’s overall paper industry sector.
“This year, the selection committee had the extremely difficult task given the overall quality of the eight nominated companies,” said Fred Monique, interim vice president of Advance, Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. “What set Procter & Gamble apart was not on their substantial monetary investment in a new paper machine, but also the numerous changes at the state level associated with this project that will provide potential benefits to future investments by all other companies in the paper industry cluster.”
Nomination criteria for the EXCELLENCE IN BUSINESS Award include having 100 or more employees; being located in Northeast Wisconsin; being a member of the Green Bay Area Chamber of commerce; and demonstrating business success, community involvement and innovation.
P&G will be presented with its award at the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and volunteer recognition program on Oct. 20.
The EXCELLENCE IN BUSINESS Award was created by Advance to identify and recognize the many ways in which local business has enhanced our area.
Other nominees for the award included HJ Martin & Son, BayCare Clinic, Enzymatic Therapy, Pioneer Metal Finishing, Keller Inc., Faith Technologies and Foth.
