FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Green Bay, Wis. (Aug. 20, 2007) – The Partners in Education Drug Alliance announced today it has been awarded a $100,000 Drug Free Communities (DFC) grant from the Office of National Drug Control Policy. This is the ninth year the Drug Alliance has received funding through the DFC grant, which it uses to educate the community on the issues relating to alcohol and other drug abuse. In addition, the Drug Alliance also sponsors a number of community and school-based events including: the safe-prom campaign and Prom Fashion Show, Post-Prom and Post-Grad parties, a Parent Pep Rally, the Great Paper Airplane Toss at Lambeau Field, Developmental Asset-building mini-grants and an annual Town Hall meeting.
“We are dedicated to addressing the problem of substance abuse by fostering the positive development of our youth. This renewed funding means ongoing resources to help our community address the drug and alcohol issues faced by our young people,” said Curt Fuszard, president of the Drug Alliance. “Furthermore, it will help us target our two priorities this school year – educating parents about prescription drug abuse and promoting an alcohol-free environment.”
The Partners in Education Drug Alliance is a coalition of business, education, health care, law enforcement and community partners who seek to share community resources and educate the public on issues relating to the prevention of alcohol and drug use by area youth. The PIE Drug Alliance is funded by a Drug Free Communities Grant from the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of January, March, May, September and November from 7 a.m. – 8 a.m. and are open to the public.
