Green Bay, Wis.- (Aug. 23, 2007)- The Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 2007 ATHENA Award winner – Eileen Littig, director emeritus of Northeast Wisconsin In-School Telecommunications (NEWIST/CESA 7). Award sponsor Schenck Business Solutions and 2006 ATHENA recipient, Donsia Strong Hill, will present the award to Eileen at the Chamber’s Annual Meeting this fall (date to be announced).
Each year, the ATHENA Award is given to a deserving man and woman who is a member of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce or employed by a member firm. The recipient must display outstanding commitment to their profession, to the advancement of women and to serving their community.
“Eileen has used her position in public broadcasting to focus attention on critical community issues, and has used her time and talent to do something about those issues,” noted Paul Jadin, president of the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. “She is a great representative of ATHENA ideals.”
In her role as director emeritus, Eileen directs, produces and implements television documentary projects on hard-hitting social issues. Most of these documentaries broadcast station-wide on Wisconsin Public Television as well as PBS stations nationwide. Since 1967, Eileen, as director of NEWIST, has produced more than $3 million dollars’ worth of educational programming and together with Wisconsin Public Television, been the recipient of more than 100 national TV production and school awards. She also serves as co-producer of Teen Connection, a 60-minute, live, call-in television program on social issues facing teens that is broadcast statewide on Wisconsin Public Television. Through it all, Eileen has supported professional women and served as a mentor to many young women she worked with her on documentaries, including at-risk young women. Her community reach is wide; she provides valuable service initiative and creativity to improve the community through her current participation on the board of directors for the United Hmong Community Center, Greater Green Bay Drug Alliance and Diversity Study Circle through the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and past representation on committees and boards affiliated with homelessness, Habitat for Humanity, at-risk youth and the AIDS Resource Center, among many others.
